Jones County School Lunch Program
Our school lunch program is fairly new to the Jones County Students (in its 2nd year??). We would like to know what the students think of their school lunch program. Do you like eating lunch at school every day? Is the food good? Is there more than one choice in the daily menu? What are the beverages they serve? Do you have enough time to eat your meal?
If there are things you don’t like, do you have any suggestions to make things better? Let the comments roll………………………………………..

The best thing that happened in the Jones County School System for several years.

I’ve enjoyed the school lunches when I have subbed at the school. One thing I’ve noticed is that the portions are too big for the little kids, K and 1st grade. I think they should cut some of the sandwiches, wraps, etc. in half. Too much is wasted.

I enjoy eating at the school lunch room. I try to get there in time to eat with the second and third graders. They always seem to enjoy having adults come and share their lunch time with them. More people should go check it out. It only costs $2.90 for a complete meal–most of which you can’t eat all of it. The salad and fruit bar is amazing.
The only thing I would like to see changed is having pizza every Friday. Even though the person who schedules the meals thinks the kids like it, they really don’t. Most of them only take the pizza because they have to, but then it gets wasted because they don’t eat it.
Also, I see lots of waste as well. And not just with the little kids either. I realize that there is a requirement for students to take a specific number of items and a milk, but there are kids who just plain don’t like milk or won’t eat foods that have to be taken. There needs to be a way to get around all of the waste.
Again, I strongly recommend more people to go check it out if you haven’t already. Beth and Kim do a great job of keeping things clean and organized. I believe that they have received 100% on their health inspections several times and should be commended for that too.

I did not realize that we could eat with the kids at school! I will definitely try to do that at least once before school is done for the summer. I can’t wait to check out the salad and fruit bar…MMMmmmm.
Are the students allowed to bring their lunch from home on a day when they have foods that they know they don’t like?
Just an idea, but if we had them put the excess “food” only into one specific trash can, could that be used for compost?? Something to think about, I guess.
